Acting Teaching Philosophy

"My job is to send you on the right path to be your most emotionally available, authentic self."

It's about breaking the stereotypes and assumptions that we believe of what acting is.  The talent you have is inherent in you but you must be willing to go there.  I will show you how to unlock the talent that you already have.   I don't believe the same technique works for everyone.  Everyone is different.  Different life experiences, different culture, family, love, loss, travel, etc etc.   Society, our own bad habits, and assumptions about what acting is has placed blocks that tend to inhibit you, but we will go through the secrets necessary to break those barriers and get you on your path to be your true, honest, and most emotionally available self.  I know what it takes, so if you are ready to work and dig deep, we will find your path to get there.

The techniques I teach are designed to get you to unleash your full potential.  This is relevant whether you are a beginner or more advanced.  The tools that I give you will allow to open up and have authentic, captivating moments, even within the confines of a production set.  This will help to boost your confidence and calm your nerves during auditions.

The environment is a collaborative one.  I believe in constructive criticism, not overbearing, intimidating pressure.  While, I am tough, I am known for my patience but also my ability to get my actors to where they need to be quickly.  I pay careful attention to each one of my students individually so we can maximize your progress together.   I encourage my students to ask questions and even challenge me.

I keep classes small so every student can put their scenes up every class.

All classes are geared toward on camera scene study and auditions.  Final performance or two your scenes will be filmed and sent to you so you can privately review it!  Scenes are never rushed, as I take the time to get to know you as an artist and what areas we need to work on to get bring your scenes to life.

I generally assign scenes based on my evaluation of numerous factors, however, I am very open to scene suggestions from my students.  I usually work off of real scenes from scripted shows or films and often will use real audition material.

Everyone is encouraged to use our different furniture, utilize our props or bring your own, to really bring your scenes to life and have fun!

A few of the highlights of what we’ll work on:

You will learn how to consistently give deep, truthful auditions and scenes on set.

Scene breakdown - how to do it the right way and why it is crucial to doing your best work.

How incorporate backstory into your scenes.

Learn how to trust your instincts and speak your truth.  Consistently.

Why (completely) breaking down  a scene is crucial for you to give the captivating moments that you are capable of!!   I show you how to do that.

Why the words never matter and how you can overcome tricky dialogue that is a poor fit for you.

How you can consistently reach a level where you can access your deepest emotional depth.

We pride ourselves on having a safe and respectful environment for everyone.   Harassment of any type will not be tolerated.

Philosophy: About
IMG_4140.jpg

I have a Meisner background so my teaching is inspired by the Meisner.  I have developed my own teaching philosophy from my many years of experience as an actor, director, producer and acting instructor on set and in the class room.   This has given me insight as to what it takes to be a working actor in the industry.
